Kids Cafe serves 1,000-plus dinners daily

It's chow time for the kiddos who dine at a Kids Cafe operated by the High Plains Food Bank.

Ashmore Inn hosts night out for moms, kids

Fifty children and 24 mothers served by the Downtown Women's Center were treated to a cookout and evening at Wonderland Park on Aug. 19. The event was organized by Ashmore Inn and Suites with support of the park and other businesses.

Six Amarillo swimmers compete in Junior Olympics

Seven swimmers, six from Amarillo and one from Midland, competed as the West Texas Swim Team in the Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympic Games in August. The competition, which drew international competitors, was in Newport News, Va.

Ashley Smith of Amarillo was named to the spring vice president's honor roll for outstanding academic performance at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla. Smith is a freshman majoring in organizational interpersonal communications with minors in public relations/advertising and Spanish.

Timbercreek Canyon Volunteer Fire Department will have a drawing for a 2010 Harley-Davidson Fat Bob motorcycle at 1 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $50 each; 1,000 will be sold. Proceeds benefit the Village of Timbercreek VFD. Call 806-622-3144.

Meals are served at Wesley Community Senior Center, 1615 S. Roberts St. Breakfast is served from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Lunch is served at noon. There is a $3 charge. Meals are for seniors 55 and older.

ASCA menu

Meals are served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Amarillo Senior Citizens Association, 1200 S. Polk St., for a suggested donation of $5.50 for members and $6.50 for nonmembers. All meals include salad, dessert and a beverage.
